UPDATE: The Rangers announced that Ryan McDonagh will be sidelined indefinitely with an upper body injury.
The Rangers are returning to the postseason for their sixth consecutive season following Monday’s 4-2 win over Columbus, but there’s growing concern around their captain, Ryan McDonagh.
McDonagh appeared to injure his right hand while blocking a Brandon Dubinsky shot at 14:47 of the first period. He played a few more shifts before exiting the game for good.
Coach Alain Vigneault offered no update after the game, saying he will be reevaluated Tuesday. Although he did admit they may call someone up for tonight’s game against the Lightning (7 PM, MSG).
In the video above, Bill Pidto, Ron Duguay and Steve Valiquette examine the play and discuss the issues faced when players block shots.
