Game Preview: Rangers at Oilers

By: David Kolb

NEW YORK RANGERS (11-4-0) @ EDMONTON OILERS (9-5-1)

OFF TO A GOOD START

The Rangers got their four-game road trip off to a great start Saturday in Calgary, dominating the Flames, 4-1. The question now is if the high-octane Rangers have enough in the tank to do it back-to-back nights, as the Blueshirts will face the Edmonton Oilers tonight to close out the season series.

LOOKING FOR A SWEEP

The Blueshirts rallied three times to come from behind and eventually defeat the Oilers 5-3 at The Garden on Nov. 3, proving that they can play an end-to-end style of hockey like the young Oilers. In their first meeting, Kevin Hayes tallied a goal and two assists for the Rangers, while Edmonton’s Connor McDavid picked up his first NHL assist on Madison Square Garden ice.

COVERING CONNOR

McDavid has lived up to expectations and will warrant some serious coverage tonight in the defensive zone. He begins the night with five assists in his past three games, giving him five goals and 13 assists totaling 18 points in 15 games.

BUCHY KEEPS ROLLING

Rangers’ rookie left wing Pavel Buchnevich is now officially red-hot after potting a goal in last night’s win. The first-year NHLer now has a goal in each of his past four games, bringing his season point total to four goals and four assists for eight points in 10 games.

SPREADING OUT THE WEALTH

The Rangers’ offense keeps coming from all over their lineup, as four different forwards scored goals versus Calgary and 10 Blueshirts registered a point. The Rangers will try and make it eight straight games scoring three or more goals tonight after posting four goals last night.
