Analysis, Reaction to Rangers’ Trade for Fox

By: Lucky Ngamwajasat

On Tuesday, the Rangers acquired Long Island native and 2019 Hobey Baker Award finalist Adam Fox from the Carolina Hurricanes for their 2019 second-round pick and a conditional 2020 third-round pick.

The 21-year-old defenseman from Jericho recorded 9 goals and 39 assists for 48 points during an impressive season for the Harvard Crimson, averaging 1.45 points per game this season. He also reached 100 career points and is the first junior defenseman to reach that milestone since Justin Schultz did it during the 2011-12 campaign.

A past contributor to MSGNetworks.com, prospect analyst Steve Kournianos gave a scouting report on Fox’s game.

Other hockey watchers, such as Mike Grinnell of the Spittin’ Chicklets Podcast, believe the Blueshirts have just added a rising star to their group of defensemen.

Here’s an interesting fact discovered by European-based Rangers fan @StatBoy_Steven:

Dimitri Filipovic of Yahoo and ESPN argues that the price the Rangers paid for Fox was worth paying.

Here are some of the highlights from Fox’s outstanding season from Harvard.

Despite the trade for Fox, the Rangers still have a plethora of picks heading into this year’s NHL Draft and could still have as many as three first-round picks if the Dallas Stars reach the Western Conference Finals. (image courtesy of CapFriendly)
